    Puran Poli

    (2 pieces)Best seller₹140

Chana dal and jaggery ground to a puran, sealed into a soft poli and griddled. Made fresh twice a day — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. — so it is worth arriving inside one of those windows rather than between them.

About these prices. These are the shop’s delivery prices. Ordering over the counter is usually cheaper — a delivery menu carries the platform’s commission and the packaging. They are taken from the shop's own listing rather than from a board, so treat them as the upper end and ask at the counter.

About these pictures. The dish pictures on this page are illustrations, not photographs of our own plates. They show what a dish is, not the portion you will be served.

Why it has a window at all

What it is

🫓 Chana dal and jaggery

Split chickpeas boiled soft and ground with jaggery into a puran, sealed inside a thin round of dough and griddled. It is a whole morning’s work before the first one is rolled, which is why it comes in batches rather than to order.

Why timing matters

🕙 It does not keep

A puran poli is right for an hour or two and then it is a different thing — stiffer, and the ghee has gone into it rather than onto it. A shop making two batches a day is choosing that over having some available at all times.

What to do

📍 Arrive inside a window

Between 3 and 6 in the afternoon there is none, and after ten at night there is none. Those are the two gaps worth knowing about before setting out.

If you are ordering for a festival

Puran poli is a Holi and Gudi Padwa dish before it is an everyday one, and a shop that makes two batches a day is not making two hundred pieces on demand. Ask a day ahead for anything beyond a few. That is not a rule printed anywhere — it is what any kitchen this size will tell you when you ring, and it is better heard now than at the counter on the morning.
