With chutney and sambar

South Indian

Idli and medu vada, three dosas, appam plain or with onion, and the Malvani amboli. The other half of what this counter does in the morning.

The list

  • Vegetarian

    Idli

    ₹100

Steamed rice cakes, served with chutney and sambar. Spongy, and the lightest plate on the counter.

  • Vegetarian

    Medu Vada

    ₹110

Urad dal ground and fried into rings — crisp outside, soft through the middle. Not to be confused with the sabudana vada on the fasting counter, which is a different dish entirely.

  • Vegetarian

    Plain Dosa

    ₹95

Plain rice dosa, served with chutney and sambar. The cheapest dosa on the list.

  • Vegetarian

    Rava Dosa

    ₹100

Semolina batter poured thin, so it comes out lacy and shatters rather than folds.

  • Vegetarian

    Masala Dosa

    ₹150

The dosa with a potato bhaji folded inside it. At ₹150 the most expensive thing on the menu that is not made with egg, and the best-rated dish the shop lists.

  • Vegetarian

    Normal Appam

    ₹90

Fermented rice batter, soft in the middle with a lacy edge, and faintly sweet.

  • Vegetarian

    Onion Appam

    ₹90

The same appam with onion through the batter — savoury where the plain one is sweet.

  • Vegetarian

    Amboli

    (1 piece)₹90

The Malvani pancake — rice and urad batter left to ferment overnight, soft and full of holes. Closer to home than the dosas beside it, and served with chutney.

About these prices. These are the shop’s delivery prices. Ordering over the counter is usually cheaper — a delivery menu carries the platform’s commission and the packaging. They are taken from the shop's own listing rather than from a board, so treat them as the upper end and ask at the counter.

About these pictures. The dish pictures on this page are illustrations, not photographs of our own plates. They show what a dish is, not the portion you will be served.

Which to order

₹100

🍘 Idli

Steamed, so the lightest plate here and the one to have if the fried half of the menu does not suit. Comes with chutney and sambar.

₹150

🥞 Masala dosa

The dosa with potato bhaji folded in. The most expensive vegetarian dish on the menu and the best-rated thing the shop lists — which is usually the right signal.

₹90

🫓 Amboli

The one to order if you have not had it. A Malvani rice-and-urad pancake left to ferment overnight, soft and full of holes — closer to home than the dosas beside it.

Two names that look alike and are not

Medu vada on this page is urad dal, ground and fried into a ring, and it is South Indian. Sabudana vada on the fasting page is sago and groundnut bound with potato, and it is upvas food. They are different dishes with twenty rupees between them, and the counter will not guess which you meant.
