Psychotherapy & counselling
Hands-on therapists, and the time to talk properly.
Talking therapy with hands-on psychotherapists and counsellors — for individuals, couples, families and children. Sessions are held in Marathi, Hindi and English.
The kinds of therapy offered
Which one fits is decided with you at the first meeting — many people arrive asking for one and find another suits the difficulty better.
Individual therapy
One to one, for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, self-esteem and difficulties that are hard to name.
Family therapy
When the difficulty sits between people rather than inside one of them, and when a family is carrying an illness together.
Marital & couple counselling
Communication, conflict, and decisions a couple cannot reach alone.
Child counselling
Behaviour, school difficulty, emotional and developmental concerns — with the parents involved, not sidelined.
Group therapy
Working alongside others facing the same thing, which is often the part that helps most.
Stress management
Individually, and through the centre’s TEA group.
What actually happens
Most people have never sat in a counselling room and imagine something far stranger than it is. It is a conversation, in a quiet room, with someone whose job is to follow it.
- 1
The first session is mostly listening
You describe what has been happening, in your own words and at your own pace. Nothing is diagnosed on the spot and nothing is decided for you.
- 2
Then a plan you agree to
How often, roughly how long, and what the work will focus on. If therapy is not the right thing, or a psychiatric opinion is needed first, you will be told that instead.
- 3
Sessions continue with the same person
You are not passed between counsellors. Continuity is most of what makes talking therapy work.
- 4
It ends when it should
Therapy is not meant to be permanent. Ending is planned and discussed, not simply stopped.
Confidentiality
What is said in a session stays between you and your therapist. The exceptions are the ones every clinician works to and will explain to you at the outset — where there is a serious risk to your life or someone else’s, or where the law requires disclosure. With children, parents are kept appropriately informed; what that means in practice is agreed openly at the start rather than left for anyone to guess.

You do not need a referral, and you do not need to have seen a psychiatrist first. If it turns out you should, we will tell you.
