Buy it loose when
- ·You want a quantity no pack comes in — 300 g of moong, half a kilo of rava
- ·It is something you use slowly and would rather not have going stale
- ·You are trying a dal or a rice you have not cooked before
- ·The recipe wants one specific spice you do not otherwise keep
Buy the pack when
- ·It is the atta the whole house eats — the 5 and 10 kg bags work out cheaper
- ·You want the brand-owner’s own sealing and date on it
- ·It is going into storage for a month or more
- ·You are buying for a function and want it identical, bag to bag
