Several popular biscuits contain egg — a number of the cream and cookie lines do, and the green or brown dot on the front of the pack is the only reliable way to tell. The dot is required by law and it is on every packet, so it is worth a glance rather than an assumption: two biscuits from the same brand, in near-identical wrappers, are quite often one veg and one not.

The same goes for the date. Ask at the counter if you cannot find it on a pack — it is a fair question in any shop, and a good one will turn the packet over and show you rather than answer from memory.
