Albums & prints

The only version of your wedding that will still open in thirty years.

Phones are replaced, formats die, cloud accounts lapse when somebody stops paying. A printed album needs nothing but a shelf.

Why we still push the album

Not out of nostalgia. Out of having watched what happens to the files.

Every couple says they will print some. Almost nobody does. The photographs go onto a phone, the phone is replaced, the files move to a laptop, the laptop dies, and the backup was a cloud account attached to an email address nobody uses any more.

We have had people come into this studio asking whether we still have their wedding from years ago, because their own copy has quietly evaporated. Sometimes we do. That is not a system anybody should rely on.

An album has no password, no subscription and no format. It sits on a shelf and it opens. When there are grandchildren, it is the thing that comes off the shelf — and it is genuinely lovely to watch that happen.

Print one. Even a small one. You will not regret it and you cannot do it later as easily as you can now.

Made to be printed

Composed with the spread in mind, so nothing important lands in the fold.

📖 How a file becomes a page

A screen glows. Paper does not

Which is why a print is always darker than what you approved on a phone.

Print wants about 300 dots to the inch at final size. A photograph that looks flawless filling a phone screen can be well short of that blown up across a 12-inch spread, and you find out at the printer rather than on the screen.

A screen is backlit and a page is not, so an image approved on a bright phone comes back off the press looking heavy. Soft-proofing to the printer’s own profile before the file goes is the difference between one round of printing and three.

Lay-flat binding matters more than people expect: on a normal bound album, the middle of a spread disappears into the gutter, and the middle of a spread is exactly where a designer wants to put the couple. Lay-flat lets a picture cross the fold with nobody’s face folded in half.

What you get

And what each of these words actually means.

📐

Designed, not dumped

Somebody lays out every spread — which photograph carries a page on its own, which four belong together, and where the story needs a breath. An album is edited, like a film.

📖

Lay-flat binding

The pages open completely flat, so a photograph can cross the middle of a spread without the couple's faces disappearing into the gutter. On ordinary binding, they do.

🎯

Soft-proofed before printing

The files are checked against the printer's own colour profile first. Screens glow and paper does not, so this is the step that stops the album coming back heavy and dark.

🖼️

Enlargements

The one for the wall, printed at a size that holds up close. Chosen with the wall in mind — a photograph that sings at postcard size can fall apart at two feet.

➕

Extra pages, extra copies

40 pages as standard, more by the page. Parents almost always want their own copy, and copies ordered together cost less than copies ordered later.

🗄️

We keep a copy

Not a promise to keep it forever, and not a substitute for your own backup — but it has rescued more than one family who lost theirs.

Easiest done in person at the studio, where you can handle the binding and the paper rather than guess at them from a screen.
