Digital X-ray

Digital radiography, with the image available the same day rather than after a trip back for a film. Chest, bone and the routine views a doctor asks for before a referral.

A radiograph is read by a doctor. We produce the image and the report; what to do about it is a consultation, not a printout.

ECG — at the laboratory or at home

A twelve-lead electrocardiogram, recorded at the laboratory or free in your own home. Home recording matters most for exactly the people who find travelling hardest.

If you have chest pain now, do not book an ECG — go to a hospital.

Pulmonary function testing

Spirometry for the long-standing cough, the breathlessness and the wheeze that a chest examination alone cannot settle. It measures how much air you move and how fast.

PFT needs effort from the patient, so it is booked rather than walked in — ring first and we will explain what the test involves.

If it is happening now

Chest pain, breathlessness or collapse is a hospital, not a test.

Do not book an ECG and wait. Go to the nearest hospital, or get somebody to take you. An ECG here is for the investigation a doctor has asked for, or a check on a condition already known about — it is not a way to find out whether today's chest pain is serious.

Mindray BC-6200 haematology analyser

A full blood count from a small sample, with automatic re-run and reflex testing — the machine repeats a result it is unsure of before a human ever sees it, which is exactly the check you want a machine to be doing.

Digital radiography

Images captured digitally and read the same day, rather than a film to collect and a second journey to make.

What a report is, and is not. A laboratory measures; it does not diagnose. Every result we issue is meant to be read by your doctor alongside your history and your examination. If something in a report worries you, take it to a doctor rather than to a search engine — and if you have symptoms now, see one today, whatever any test says.
