The laboratory
32 years, one family, one town.
Medicayar Pathological Laboratory (OPC) Private Limited — accredited by NABL, certified to ISO 15189:2022, certificate MC-7874.
Accredited, and equipped to be.
NABL accreditation and ISO 15189 are not badges bought for a wall. They are an outside body auditing how a laboratory calibrates its machines, stores its samples, trains its people and checks its own results against known controls — and coming back to check again.
It is worth knowing what that audit covers, because the badge on its own tells a patient nothing: how the machines are calibrated and how often, how samples are stored and for how long, what training the people running the tests have had, and whether the laboratory's own results still match known control samples. Then the auditors come back.

A full blood count from a small sample, with automatic re-run and reflex testing — the machine repeats a result it is unsure of before a human ever sees it, which is exactly the check you want a machine to be doing.

Where the name comes from
Medic, and Ayyappa.
The laboratory is named for the medicine it practises and for Lord Ayyappa, whom this family has kept faith with for as long as it has kept the laboratory. The devotion is not decoration on a signboard: the Ayyappa vow is a discipline of restraint, of doing a thing properly for its own sake, and of treating whoever stands in front of you as the same as anybody else.
There is a second thing in the ending. In Tamil, -ayar carries the sense of Ayyanar, the guardian who is set at the edge of a village to watch over its fields and the people working them — and of the Ayar, the herding families whose whole occupation is looking after something that cannot look after itself.
In Malayalam usage Ayar can stand for a respected one, or a guardian — the same protective sense that runs through Ayyanar and Ayyappan. That is a fitting thing to find in the name of a house that keeps the Ayyappa vow.
Medicayar carries a little Ayar — science in service, protection in spirit.
That is a reasonable description of how a pathology laboratory ought to be run. A sample is handled the same way whether it came from a labourer or a landlord. A result is reported as it is found. Nobody is sold a test they were not asked to have.
During the pandemic the laboratory stayed open for twenty months without a break, and was felicitated by JANPAKSHAM, Dombivli, for that work.
