An orthotist-prosthetist is not a doctor, and that is the point.

Ask any fitter what they are registered as.

It is a fair question everywhere, including here, and it is the one thing on a page like this that a stranger can actually check.

Prosthetics and orthotics is a registered profession in India, and the register is kept by the Rehabilitation Council of India — a statutory body rather than a trade association. Artificial limbs and callipers are also sold by people with no training in the subject at all, and a socket made by somebody who has not been taught where a limb may and may not bear load is not a cheaper version of the same thing. It is a different thing that happens to look similar.

So ask, wherever you go. Ask what training the person fitting you has had, ask how many of your level they fit in a year, and ask what happens when it rubs. A practice worth using answers all three without hesitating.
